The setting is Live at St Lukes , a beautiful converted church in the middle of Cork City. In this and many other unique venues around Europe, there comes a point in our show when two slightly pasty, red-haired Irish guys attempt to do the unthinkable: summon up the funk. Actually, it’s Declan who attempts it - I try and stay out of his way.
If there was a party going on in the Murphy family household, we all gravitated to his record collection. By his mid-teens, he had amassed a treasure trove of music that never failed to get people on whatever constituted a dance floor. James Brown, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Public Enemy, Prince ... the list goes on.
As a result, when we started writing songs, Declan was the scientist, experimenting with riffs and effects to make our music that little bit groovier, even though he was usually stuck behind an unassuming acoustic guitar.
It’s no accident that our very first album, Songs For The Tempted, opens with a wah-wah guitar solo. Our second album, Man Alive, declares itself the very same way, and this is the song it introduces: Sensual Thing. p.s We are back in St Lukes Church for our album launch show on October 13th but before that we come to Connollys of Leap on Saturday June 17th.

Washington Down was the 4th and final single taken from our debut album, Songs For The Tempted. This is what it looked like in 1989. We have recorded the song on a few different albums over the years including the Feile Classical album and this version on Live At Vicar Street.
